A. Bernard Ruckh, 93, of Overland Park, KS, and formerly of Emporia, KS, passed away on April 1, 2014.
Bernard was born on October 23, 1920 in Kansas City, MO. He was diagnosed early in life with Polio and overcame all the challenges that the disease presented. He wed Margaret Grannan and they were happily married for over 70 years. He had a successful career in baking with Dolly Madison and Hostess and was responsible for many of the treats you enjoy today. While in his 80s he traveled the world installing bakeries in other countries. For decades he played Santa for the elderly and under privileged children. He was an active member of Holy Cross Church and served on the building committee for the school.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, children, Patrick (Karen), Nora (Rich) Altman, Marcia (George) Taylor, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and brother, Eugene (Carol). Bernard was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nichole Taylor, sister, Nadine, and brother, Charles.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 7th, 6-8 PM, with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 8th, 10:00 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 W 93rd St, OP, KS. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Cross School.
