Benjamin Michael Kozikowski, M.D., age 78, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2008 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 10th at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 4-6:00 P.M., Sunday, November 9th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS with rosary recitation at 5:30 P.M. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Rockhurst High School, 9301 Sate Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Dr. Ben Kozikowski was born on April 16, 1930 in Kansas City, KS the son of Anna and Boleslaw Kozikowski of Kansas City, Kansas. He was a life-long resident of the Kansas
City area. Ben Kozikowski attended Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas and Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri. Following graduation from Rockhurst College, Summa Cum Lauda. Ben attended Medical School at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating first in his Class, Summa Cum Lauda. Ben served in the United States Army from May 1958 until October 1963 as a Captain. Dr. Kozikowski selected Los Angeles County General Hospital to perform his Medical Residency prior to moving back to Kansas City and establishing his Orthopedic Practice. Dr. Kozikowski was committed to the founding and success of Shawnee Mission Medical Center and served as Medical Staff President in 1966, and remained active throughout his career in Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s growth and success. Dr. Kozikowski retired in 1997 after practicing medicine as an Orthopedic Surgeon at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 37 years.
Dr. Kozikowski was preceded into Heaven by his first wife, Ann and his son, Steven. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Prairie Village, KS; son, Michael Kozikowski, of Prairie Village, KS; son, Mark Kozikowski and his family, wife Tami, daughters, Kendall, Lauren and Alexandra, all of Minneapolis, MN; his sister, Ann, of Kansas City; and his two beagles, Sam & Gunther.
