Benjamin J. Davis of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2018 at the age of 92. Ben graduated from Ft. Scott Jr. College in 1947, then later went on to earn his master’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University. His first teaching job was in Metz, KS, where he taught social studies, physical education and was a coach. Ben also taught and coached at Osawatomie, Shawnee Mission East and Shawnee Mission South high schools, and Meadowbrook Junior High School. He retired in 1974 and opened up Gilben Cards & Gifts and Art Gallery, located on State Line Road. Ben was passionate about teaching, coaching basketball, football and track. He was also a long time member of Greater Kansas City Dalia Club and a long time antiques dealer.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents James and Liddia Davis; brothers, H. Herb and Melvin T. Davis and sisters, Mary N. Bissenden, Margurite P. Smith, Cleta M. Ogle and L. Juanita Marsh. He was a dear uncle and friend to many, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
