Benedetta C. Swayze, 99, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18,, 2012 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Assn.
Benedetta was born Feb. 13, 1913 in Bronx, NY to Harry and Julia Civiletti. She graduated from George Washington High School in New York City and later attended New Jersey College for Women. Benedetta married Allan Wilson Swayze Sept. 5, 1936 in Bronx, NY. They moved to Prairie Village, KS in 1951. She was a past member of Village Presbyterian Church, active with Cub Scouts of America, active PTA member at Prairie Elementary School in Prairie Village, KS. She worked part time for Harzfelds Department Store in Corinth Square in the children's department for many years. Benedetta was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Allan Wilson Swayze. Survivors include her three children: Camilla S. Walton of Lenexa, KS; Allan W. (Patty) Swayze of Clifton, TX; Stephen W. (Barbara) Swayze of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Nina C. Kramers of Cohasset, MA; seven grandchildren: Trey (Megan) Walton, Stephen Swayze, Jr., Spencer (Lisa) Swayze, Stewart Swayze, Allan Swayze, Jeff Swayze, Joe Swayze; and four great grandchildren.
Benedetta was an avid reader, loved to play and win at cards and a master at crossword puzzles. She was kind, gracious, and a caring individual. The staff at Lamar Court found her to be sweet and uncomplaining. She was a baseball fan and loved candy, especially chocolate.
