Betty "Bee" Marcason, 93, of Overland Park, died peacefully at home on September 4, 2013. Bee was born on December 14, 1919 in Wichita, KS to Charlotte and John Carpenter. The family moved to Kansas City shortly after Bee graduated from high school. Bee met and married John Marcason in 1941. Bee's life centered around her Baptist faith and family. Additionally, she was a pioneer for women, in the field of insurance underwriting at Linn (Zurich) Insurance Company.
Bee is survived by her daughter, Jan Marcason and her husband, Richard Purucker of Kansas City, MO, five grandchildren, John, Frank, and Dan Wessling, and Rory and Evan Welsh, ten great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law and best friend, Mildred Fickle. Bee is preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, John Marcason, her daughter, Joan Wessling, and her two siblings, Morris Carpenter, Mary Brouilette.
A celebration of Bee's life will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 4:00 PM, at Emmanuel Baptist Church 10100 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. The family will receive friends at the church following the ceremony.
