Arval Hoisington

Arval DeVere Hoisington, 79, Lenexa, Kan., died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Brighton Gardens, Prairie Village, Kan. Arval was born September 22, 1928, in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Vere Guy Hoisington and Merna Eliza Rowley Hoisington. His early life was spent in Floyd and Mitchell County, Iowa. He attended rural school and graduated May 1947 from Floyd High School, Floyd, Iowa. He attended Colorado School of Floral Design, Denver, Colo., receiving his diploma October 1947. He went to work at the Osage Greenhouse, Osage, Iowa. In 1952, he went to Paducah, Ky., and worked for Cherry the Florist until December 1959. He then went to work at Motts Flower Shop, Ottumwa, Iowa. In 1961, he bought the Higginsville Greenhouse, Higginsville, Mo. He sold the greenhouse in 1977. He then moved to Waterloo, Iowa, working for Aubrey's Flowers until 1979. He worked at Teefey's Flowers from 1979 until retiring in 1995. He married Sandra McManus June 20, 1956. On February 17, 1958, she gave birth to their son Bradley G. Hoisington. Arval was a member of the North Overland Park Baptist Church, Overland Park, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hoisington of the home, son, Brad Hoisington, and his wife Audrey; two granddaughters and two great grandsons; a brother, Kenneth Hoisington, Sandwich, Ill., and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. prior to the service.
