Arthur J (Pete) McMasters Jr. passed away from heart failure on Tuesday September 1st. Pete lived in Roeland Park Kansas for over 50 years and, most recently, resided with his daughter in KCMO. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania August 14, 1924. He attended grade school and high school in Glenshaw, PA, where he lived until moving to Kansas City in 1947. After graduating from high school, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Eastman Kodak in Pittsburgh. In 1945, he attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years, and helped organize the university’s photography club. Upon moving to Kansas City, he obtained a job at the Jones Store Co. where he worked in the credit operation of the store, retiring as Collection Manager in 1979. He continued his interest in photography throughout his life, and during the last 40 years had a special interest in black and white photography. His prints have been displayed in various places through the area. Many of his photographs have been published in Images of America, Arcadia Publishing Co., Dover, N.H. He was a member and treasurer of the Missouri-Kansas Rail Passenger coalition (MOKSRail). He and his wife Carolyn traveled extensively by train throughout Canada and the United States. He was one of the founding members and past president of the Greater Kansas City Cellarmasters organization. Along with his wife Carolyn he was a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Kansas City Union Station. He was a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. He leaves his wife of 56 years Carolyn, his daughter Cam and her husband Karl, sister Anne of Arlington, Va. and his sister Edna of Lincoln City, Oregon, his nephew Tom of New Orleans, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be sent to the Union Station, Rolling Hills Church, or an organization of your choice.
