Arline B. Gastl, age 79, Shawnee, KS, passed away on November 8, 2007, at her residence. A celebration of Arline?s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, November 12th at the Shawnee United Methodist Church, 10700 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Her cremains will be buried in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS. The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers; memorial contributions may be made either to a shelter for abused women and children, Safehome, Inc., P.O. Box 4563, Overland Park, KS 66204, or to The Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Arline was born to Marvin and Bertha Blackwood on December 13, 1927 in Kansas City, MO. She was a resident of the Kansas City area for 52 years. She graduated from Westport High School in 1945, and the Secretarial Business School in 1947.
Arline?s first employment was as a stenographer with the Kansas City Power & Light Company; her last employment was as an Administrative Assistant to Eugene F. Gastl, attorney at law.
Arline married Eugene on June 15, 1979, after which she moved to Shawnee, KS. She was a former member of The Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, KS, and was a present member of The Shawnee United Methodist Church.
?Blackie?, as Arline was known to her friends, loved her marriage to Gene; her children and grandchildren (her license plate read ?MOM 2 7?); shopping; trips to Las Vegas; and vacations in the Ozarks.
Arline is survived by her husband, Eugene F. Gastl , of the home; her seven children and spouses, Kathy (Ervin) Schofield, Keith (Mary) Kensinger; Kelly (Mike) True; Karen (John) Finkbiner; Karla (Rick) Sharp; Kevin (Kimberly) Kensinger; and Kraig Kensinger; fifteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Rev. Maynard Blackwood, Knox City, MO; Pady Blackwood, of Florida, four stepchildren, Philip Gastl, Catherine Conger, David Gastl and Brenda Gastl, and six step grandchildren.
