Arlene Hedeen

April 20, 1939 — March 27, 2010

Arlene passed into God’s loving care and keeping on March 27, 2010 after a long and courageous struggle with cancer and other illnesses. She was born on April 20, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the first of four girls born to Peter and Edith Suchla. Arlene attended Vocational High School and graduated from Minnesota University in 1961. She taught fourth grade for four years in Richfield and Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Arlene married Everett in 1962 and moved from Northfield, Minnesota to Lenexa, Kansas in 1967 after the birth of their first daughter, Kristen. Their second daughter, Marit, was born in 1969. When they moved to Kansas, Arlene became a full time stay-at-home mother, totally dedicated to her family’s needs, her daughters’ activities and service to her church. While at Immanuel Lutheran, she was a Stephen Minister, a Church Council member, chairman of the Altar Guild and Worship and Music committees and president of the Choir. She loved to sing and was a valued member of church choirs from her youth until she became ill this winter. When her daughters were grown she went back to work for Aetna and ING Financial Services as an office supervisor, retiring in 2006.

Arlene’s great passion was her family. She cared deeply about each of us and reflected this love in her dedication, service, support and generosity. She was a great cook and was continually asked for her recipes. She did every task to the absolute best of her ability. Her outgoing personality made friends wherever she went and her strong work ethic was exemplary. She was a wonderful wife to Everett for 48 years.

Arlene’s father Peter and two sisters Sharon and Carole preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Everett, her daughters Kristen and Marit, her sons-in law John Fitzpatrick and Mike Adams, her grandchildren Erik, Jacob, Ryan and Beverly, her sister Susanne, eleven nieces and nephews and her mother Edith who is 100 years old.

The family requests memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
