Antonia Antos, also known as Nia, peacefully passed with her family around her on November 25, 2008. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 1, 2008, at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be at St. Dionysios Church from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 30, with a Trisagion service at 6:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dionysios Church Memorial Fund.
Nia was born on December 18, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, to her parents, William and Frances Kotzias. She traveled to Greece with her family in 1934 and lived in Athens for a year. She married Michael L. Antos in 1941. During WWII, she worked in a bomber factory in Fairfax, Kansas. The majority of her life she lived in Kansas City. As a lifelong member of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, she was a member of the church choir and was a devoted church volunteer. She loved to sew, work in the garden, cook, and she brought food to her friends and family members regularly. She also loved to dance and performed international dancing at nursing homes and churches throughout the community for 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael L. Antos; her brother, Harry Kotzias; and her grandson, Michael A. Lowman.
She is survived by both of her daughters, Pauline Anthan and Linda Lowman; her grandchildren, Matthew Anthan, Ellie Anthan, and James Lowman; her great-granddaughter, Aura Anthan; and nine nieces and nephews. She was an incredibly loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed by her family, members of her church, and the community.
