Anthony Raymond Russo, 75, of Prairie Village, KS passed away December 25, 2010. A memorial Mass will be said 10 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd., Leawood, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel. Private family burial. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the American Stroke Foundation or Cure of Ars church.

Tony was born in Rochester, NY, on May 15, 1935 to Anthony and Anna Russo. Both his parents died when he was 4 years old and after many years of living in foster care he and his sister Josephine moved to California. After living for several years in a tent in a wash (dry creek bed) he was invited to live with friends of the family. At about the age of 13, Sam and Anna Bonanno took Tony in as a member of their family, providing him clothes, food and an education. The Bonanno’s always treated Tony as a true son. Tony earned an AA degree from San Bernardino Valley College, a BA degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg and a Juris Doctorate degree from Washburn University School of Law. He practiced law in Kansas City, KS for a number of years. Tony was compassionate about the law and was happiest discussing legal issues. Tony made friends wherever he went. He loved to travel and even managed to travel around the world on one trip. Tony struggled with health issues for the last 16 years of his life, but always maintained a positive attitude.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Bonanno and sister, Josephine Gibson, Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Coffman Russo, his daughter, Elizabeth Russo Paulk, Son-in-law Brian Paulk, granddaughter Anna Sophia Paulk of Fairway, KS and his son, Anthony Randall Russo of Kansas City, KS.

Tony will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
