Annabel Putney Mallen
Annabel Putney Mallen, 91, Belton. MO, departed her friends and family on January 27, 2008. These fortunate people continue their journeys all just a bit wiser and compassionate about the beauty of life, for the blessing of having known her. A devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother, Ann was an artist. Born in Topeka, KS March 13, 1916 to Katherine and Herbert S. Putney, Ann was little sister to Kenneth and Donald. All have preceded her in death.
She majored in Fine Arts at Washburn University and was a Kappa Alpha Theta sorority alumni. After raising her children, Ann increased her attention to painting and drawing. A trip to Taos, New Mexico in 1968 ignited a passion for the landscape and natives of the American Southwest. She became a familiar figure at the Taos Pueblo, where she had many Indian friends.
Her talent as an artist resulted in many gallery showings in Santa Fe, Taos and Kansas City. ?As an artist, to perpetuate the beauty in the world is a great privilege.? She did so with great joy, skill and grace.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Constance Ann and survived by her husband of 68 years, Arthur ?Pat? Mallen, son Gary, daughter-in-law Cassandra, and the grandchildren she adored, Hayley and Hannah.
