Ann Warner McClelland, 82, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009
Ann was born 9/30/1927 in Winfield, Kansas. She was the daughter of Harold Forsyth (Speed) Warner and Helen Ryan Warner. Ann was raised in Kansas City attending Border Star Elementary School and Sunset Hill School for Girls Class of 1945. She attended Bennett College in New York and Kansas University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She met her future husband John Overfield McClelland a Phi Gamma Delta at KU.
In her young married life she volunteered as a gray lady, and was a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Mission Hills Country Club. She loved playing Tennis and Golf. After being widowed in 1984 she worked for friends at Sitzmark and The Wardrobe in retail sales that catered to sports enthusiasts. Meeting new people each day was part of what she really enjoyed.
Ann was an amazing gardener and animal lover. Her kitty “Precious” was her constant companion for the last 17 years. They both transitioned well to life changes that included assisted living.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold F. and Helen R. Warner, husband John Overfield McClelland, daughter Brier, son-in-law Jimmie D. Russell. She is survived by daughter Sandra (Sandi) Russell, Mission Ks, daughter Nancy and husband Marcus Hansen, Mission, Ks, son John Overfield McClelland Jr., Mission, Ks and brother Jay Ryan Warner, Overland Park, Ks, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to all who were entrusted with her care: Bickford of Mission Springs Assisted Living, Village Shalom Skilled Rehabilitation Services, Menorah Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice. The caregivers, staff and management whose love and care for Ann were immeasurable, made each day a better day.
There will be a Celebration of Ann’s Life on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, KCMO 64113, at 2:30PM. Family will greet after the celebration in the Jewel Room
