Ann Montague Groner, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away November 22nd at her home. Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday November 27th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, KC, MO 64113. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation or the Conservatory of Music of Kansas City.
Mrs. Groner was born September 10, 1932 in Independence, Missouri. A graduate of William Chrisman High School and The University of Missouri, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, the Junior League of Kansas City, the Kansas City Country Club, past board member of the Jackson County Historical Society, the Women?s Council of the UMKC, and a participant in many other civic and cultural activities. She is a former trustee and officer of the National Arthritis Foundation and founder of the Kansas City/Western Missouri chapter, and was responsible for introducing new designs in tools to assist those with limited hand mobility.
The daughter of Harriet Gebert and Ralph Harrison Montague of Independence, Mrs. Groner had the unique pleasure of dining with President and Mrs. Truman at the White House during a trip to see her older brother Jack graduate from West Point in 1946.
Always curious and enthusiastic about learning, Mrs. Groner continued to study, play bridge, read, and travel throughout her life. Her most recent trips included visiting her daughter Ann Powell in Denmark; her step-daughter and dear friend LTC Laurie Tillett, US Army Retired, in Hawaii and Virginia; traveling with beloved friends to Turkey, Mexico, and Florida; and roaming the countryside of Great Britain with her husband and best friend William Wolcott Groner. She is survived by her husband, daughter, step-daughter, and her son William Wolcott Groner Jr of Kansas City, her two grandchildren 1LT Charles Ryland Drennan, US Marine Corps and Karen Elizabeth Drennan, and her brother and sister-in-law COL Jack Montague, US Army Retired and Eleanor Montague.
