Dr. Andrew "Andy" Vedros, 87, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
Andy was born March 28, 1925 to Nick and Shorgene Vedros in Kansas City, KS.
Andy served his country in the U.S. Army, 15th Air Force, during WWII. He was shot down and was a prisoner of war in Barth, Germany. Andy was a navigator of a B-24 having flown his first mission at age 18. Andy was a doctor of veterinary medicine and graduated from KSU in 1950. Andy, along with his cousin, Paul Gatzoulis, opened the first small animal hospital in Johnson County, The Mission Animal Clinic. He retired from his practice in the late 1980's. He met and married Rose Marie Sachen in 1951 and they had three daughters. Andy was an avid golfer and he was club champion at Brookridge Country Club for several years.
Survivors include his three daughters, Patricia (B.J.) Laven of Lenexa, Andrena Keesee of Overland Park, and Valerie (Steven) Forsberg of Overland Park, three grandchildren, Kelley (Jim) Allen of Miami, TX, Christina Forsberg of VA, and Dane Forsberg of Overland Park, one great-grandchild, Ashtyn Allen of Miami, TX, two siblings, Mary Antos of Overland Park, KS, and Alex Vedros of Kansas City, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Andy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ernestene "Lauree" Wells, who passed away in 2006, two brothers, Chris Vedros and George Vedros.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 29th, 6-8, with the Trisagion service to be held at 7:00 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 30th, 10:00 AM, at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 West 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212. Entombment will follow at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church.
