Alice Nelson

February 4, 1922 — April 2, 2011

Alice Eugenia Nelson was born in Scandia, KS, on February 4, 1922, and died at Overland Park Nursing and Rehab Center on April 2, 2011. She was the youngest of five children to Swedish immigrants, Axel and Huldah Nelson, and lived on a farm outside of Scandia until she graduated from high school. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City and did housework while attending business school. She retired from Farmland after 31 years of service. Until she moved to Overland Park in 1922, Alice was an active member of the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church in Kansas City, MO, and enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as church and Sunday School secretary for several years. She later transferred her membership to Hillcrest Covenant Church and participated in a weekly Bible Study, Tabitha, and SAGE. Alice always loved music and found great pleasure in playing the piano for her lady friends in Bible Study. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ethel, and brothers Gerhard, Paul and Willard. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Pat, and six nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel with a visitation prior from 10:00 to 11:00. There will be a private burial at Riverview Cemetery in Scandia, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to City Union Mission or Odyssey Hospice.
