Alfred David Dixon passed away suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday at Lakeview Village in Lenexa. He lived an honored life of service to others and was loved and respected by his family and friends from all walks of life. He will be remembered for his humor, his selflessness, his generosity, and his compassion for man and beast alike. There are many dogs who will miss seeing Al on the other end of the leash.
Al was born in 1924 in Los Angeles. Served in the US Navy as Signalman 2nd class—Beachmaster Unit in the Pacific in WW2 and fought at Guam and Saipan. Graduated 1949 from DePauw University. His successful 30-year career at Aero Drapery Company included opening and managing the Kansas City Division.
Al fulfilled many civic duties and was an active member of the Village Presbyterian Church and served as Elder for many years. His wife of 59 years, Sara Jane “Susie”, his daughter Darci, and his son David benefited greatly from his example and will face the tough challenge of carrying on his legacy of kindness and humor. His Grandchildren Joel and Holly had the rare opportunity to know a truly virtuous man. His sister, June Crews, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church at 6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, Kansas at 1:30 pm Friday February 19th. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Village Presbyterian Church or Lakeview Village Foundation.
