Alan "Al" Scarboro, 79, Prairie Village, KS passed away peacefully on January 12, 2012 in his home. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15, from 6-8 p.m., at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 16, also at the chapel; burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
Mr. Scarboro was born September 18, 1932 in Baltimore, MD, but spent the majority of his childhood in Norfolk, VA. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and proudly flew as a radio mechanic during the Korean War. Upon being Honorably Discharged in 1968 as a Senior Master Sergeant, Al worked as the Western Area Service Manager for Diebold, Inc. until 1985. In retirement, Al and his son, Eugene "Geno" were owners of Westport Transportation. Al had a passion for riding motorcycles, his dogs, carpentry/handy-work, and U.S. Military History.
In August, 1955 he met Mary-Jane Garcia while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. The two were married 3 months later on December 18, and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Al was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Bob Scarboro, his son, Alan and daughter-in-law Catherine Scarboro, and son, Geno Scarboro. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Scarboro, his daughter and her family, Elaine and Greg Duvall, Michael, John, and Rachel Duvall, daughter-in-law, Karen Scarboro and her daughter, Lauren, as well as grandsons, Alexandre and Christophe Scarboro.
