MARY ANTOS
Mary Antos, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on November 1, 2019.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5th at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Christian Church – 8100 W 95th St. Overland Park, Ks, with interment immediately following at Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas.
Visitation will also take place at the Church just prior to Funeral Service starting with the Trisagion Service at 10:00 a.m. on November 5th.
Mary was born in Kansas City, Kansas on October 14, 1926 to Greek immigrant parents, Nicholas Steve Vedros and Steriani (Gatzoulis) Vedros. Mary spent her early years in the close-knit Greek community of Armourdale, was an honor roll student who graduated in 1944 from Argentine High School and then attended Kansas City Community College. In 1946 she married Gus Louis Antos after he returned from service in the US Navy, and together raised a family in Kansas City, Ks. Mary worked for twenty-five (25) years as personal assistant and secretary to the managing partner at Lathrop & Gage before retiring.
Mary was an avid follower of the stock market, excellent cook and seamstress, enjoyed travel and was highly active in her Church. She and her husband were part of a core group of members rebuilding the Church in Overland Park, Kansas. Mary served on the Parish Council, acted as Treasurer, was an active member and one-time President of the Church’s philanthropic organization, the Philoptochos Society. Fifty-eight (58) years ago, Mary helped organize the first annual Greek Food Festival for St. Dionysios which continues to attract a huge following in the community to this day.
Mary is survived by her three children and their spouses Louis (Karen) Antos of Dallas, TX, Stephanie (Verne) Christensen of Olathe and Chris (Linda) Antos of Olathe. Grandchildren: Becky (Matt) Lawson of Plano, TX, Constantine (Amanda) Antos of Heath, TX, Eugene Antos of Dallas, TX, Hardy Christensen of Overland Park, Miles Christensen of Kansas City, MO, Chloe (Eric) Luschen of Olathe and Christopher Antos of Overland Park. Mary was blessed with six great-grandchildren; Dean and Alexander Antos, Evangeline and Violet Lawson, Kylie Christensen and Alexis Luschen along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her loving and devoted husband Gus Antos, her four brothers; George, Andy, Alex and Chris Vedros and their spouses, and all of her In-laws and their spouses. Mary had a powerful sense of determination, remained strong to the very end, was very alive spiritually, family-centered and led a truly remarkable life.
